scribbles: it's about getting in the reps
Plus a clothing swap, a birthday retreat gamble, and some final thoughts on the ultimate frisbee season.
It’s the first week of crisp air and morning drizzle— and I’m so here for it. With the end of summer, here’s a reflection to cap off the season.
This summer’s theme: getting in the reps 💪
I recently came across this quote and I love it: "Knowledge is only a rumor until it lives in the muscle."
This quote basically defines my summer. Instead of inhaling books, courses, and podcasts, I decided to learn more deeply.
So I simplified. I took what I already knew, and I designed reps that I could practice.
The reps I chose to do were small. They did not need herculean strength. Yet four months later, they’ve led to some real results.
In my business: At first, I was trying to do everything — marketing, community building, and coaching — all while trying to mentally will myself into feeling more confident. But with a nudge from my coach, I simplified down to one goal: 100 coaching conversations with new people. That’s it. No deadline either, just progress at any pace. Five months and 42 coaching calls later, and I no longer need to trick myself into feeling confident — I am confident. Each rep has given me so much more clarity on my coaching skills, who I like to work with, and what I offer. And as I grow more self-assured, getting new clients is also starting to happen with more ease.
In my body: Earlier this fall, I started working with a somatic coach to stop holding myself back. What we quickly found was that if I wanted to feel at home in the world, I first had to feel at home in my own body. The practice we decided on was the pause and observe — to take a moment each day to observe the sensations in my body and how I felt in relation to my space. Over time, I’ve gotten a lot better at noticing what triggers and calms me, and that awareness is already helping me feel more at ease within myself and within this world.
In ultimate frisbee: For years, I’ve been chasing this idea of being a "great ultimate player." But even after making an elite-level team, I still didn’t feel it. The thing was, just adding a brand name to my frisbee resume wasn’t going to boost my confidence. The rep I needed? Adding moments to my mental highlight reel. And so I did — whether at pod, practice, or tournaments, if I or someone else noticed that I did something well, I paused and took note. Seeing and feeling these moments really added up. And I’m coming out of this season finally able to accept that I’m a great ultimate player.
Looking back, these small reps not only helped me learn new skills, they helped me build more confidence in my capacity — and that is fundamentally changing how I feel about myself 🥰
Community building snapshots
🧢 A little clothing swap: Closet cleanouts are more fun when you’re doing it with friends! This clothing swap was such a fun way to give our old clothes new life, and together, we figured out the best ways to recycle the rest. (Pro-tip: for clothes you can’t donate i.e. has a company logo or is too worn out, check out Marine Layer’s Re-Spun program or Trashie—they recycle clothes and give you store credit!)
🎂 A birthday retreat gamble: I recently went to a birthday celebration retreat where I knew practically no one. It was a gamble — but I knew the hosts shared my love for bringing people together and creating space for creativity and connection. Though my little Inside-Out Anxiety character was screaming at me when I first got there, it ended up being a magical weekend where we all connected over art, play, dance, food, and music. I even shared my own little offering for the community — an “abstract portrait party” that combined art and storytelling to help spark new friendships. It seems that when values are aligned, you can truly create community anywhere.
🥏 A surprisingly inclusive frisbee community: When I chose personal growth over community this season, I had expected to feel uncomfy (I always expect elite environments to be cutthroat). But what I found instead was a deeply supportive group of people. It was a team where the coaches cared about our growth and where the captains believed in each and every one of us. This was a team that said “we all belong here” and really acted like it. And that was really special.

🎙️ I’m not a huge podcast person, but this interview with Joe Hudson was particularly fascinating.
🧑🏻🏫 Intermediate Friendship workshop: It’s back! I attended this last year and while it is about friendship, I ended up learning so much about myself. It was in this space that I got to experiment with speaking openly, setting boundaries, and casting aside my self-judgment. The next one is Saturday October 26 (If you’re interested, lmk — I’ve got a 20% coupon).
🥐 The Baker Next Door: This new Redwood City bakery has great vibes, delicious focaccia, and a solid cappuccino. Plus, I’m obsessed with their origin story — it was founded by two neighbors who bonded over their love of baking!
☕️ Linea Coffee: An SF classic — I just can’t get enough of their shaken espresso lately.
🎵 I’ve been into those jazzy vibes as of late — here’s one song I have on repeat:
