I felt so seen in this piece, Kelly! I so deeply want to make my parents proud, but I also don't envision my life and my career as they do. It's hard to talk about it with them when I'm still working through uncertainties myself but I think you make a great point that the goal of having these conversations shouldn't be to get their approval, but just to get their understanding. Thank you for sharing your experiences through this blog, it's been so comforting to read through these shared experiences <3
I definitely agree that it's hard to share when you're still working through uncertainties yourself -- and iI also don't think you have to at those times! It's something that is discussed early on in the book The Artist's Way as well -- that in the early days it's okay to first turn to people that you know are supportive of your explorations so you give yourself a chance to build some confidence and trust. And then later, you can involve parents/others who might not share the same vision as you when you are more grounded.
Love this piece, Kelly! This resonated a ton. Beautifully written and love the cartoons 🤌
Ahh thanks for reading <333 so glad to hear it resonates :)
This is a beautiful piece. The writing is excellent, but the images make things come alive. Kudos on all of it.
